Stanhope AI is Transforming Artificial Intelligence Making Machines Think Like Humans

Stanhope AI, a London-based startup, is pioneering advancements in artificial intelligence by integrating principles of neuroscience. Founded as a spinout from University College London (UCL), the company is driven by notable experts in the field, including CEO Professor Rosalyn Moran, Director Professor Karl Friston, and Technical Advisor Dr. Biswa Sengupta.

Stanhope AI is focused on developing "agentic AI" which diverges from traditional machine learning models like large language models (LLMs). Instead of relying on extensive datasets and prior training, their AI systems use real-time data to make decisions autonomously. This approach, grounded in the neuroscience concept of Active Inference and the Free Energy Principle, allows their models to continuously update their predictions and minimize uncertainties, much like the human brain. This reduces the risk of AI hallucinations and enables the models to operate efficiently on smaller devices such as drones (Stanhope AI) (UKTN).

The company recently secured £2.3 million in seed funding led by the UCL Technology Fund, with participation from Creator Fund, MMC Ventures, Moonfire Ventures, Rockmount Capital, and angel investors. This funding will support the further development of their agentic AI models and their practical applications in various fields, including autonomous delivery drones and industrial robotics (Tech.eu) (FinSMEs).

Stanhope AI's technology is already being tested in collaboration with organizations like Germany’s Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation and the Royal Navy, showcasing its potential in real-world scenarios. The ultimate goal of Stanhope AI is to create AI systems that think, adapt, and decide like humans, potentially transforming the capabilities and impact of AI and robotics (AI News) (UKTN).
