3. US-China AI chip race

Cambricon's Financial Turnaround Highlights China's AI Chip Progress

Cambricon Technologies, a Chinese AI chip designer, has reported its first-ever quarterly profit, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing US-China AI chip race. Founded in 2016, Cambricon has become China's most valuable artificial intelligence company, now valued at approximately 300 billion yuan ($41 billion).

This achievement comes amid escalating US export controls that have limited Chinese access to advanced semiconductor technology, particularly Nvidia's AI processors. Cambricon's profitability underscores China's growing capability to develop sophisticated AI chips domestically, reducing reliance on foreign technology.

The company's financial turnaround is noteworthy, as it reported a net profit between 240 million yuan to 328 million yuan in the final quarter of 2024, despite a 724 million yuan loss in the first nine months. This success is driven by China's aggressive investment in computing infrastructure to support its AI ambitions.

AI Tip of the Week
Ace Your Prep with ChatGPT Live 🎯💬

Got a big interview, test, or presentation coming up? Feeling those pre-game jitters? Don’t sweat it—ChatGPT Live is here to help you prepare like a pro. Think of it as your personal mock-interviewer, quiz coach, or practice buddy that’s available 24/7. Whether you want to nail tough interview questions or ace an exam, this week’s tip will show you how to turn ChatGPT into the ultimate rehearsal partner.

How to Use ChatGPT Live for Interviews, Tests, and More

  1. Mock Interviews: Ask ChatGPT to act as an interviewer for the job you’re applying for. Provide details like the role and industry, and it will craft a set of realistic questions to simulate the experience.
📌 Prompt Idea: “You are an interviewer for [POSITION]. Ask me a set of 10 questions relevant to the role and provide feedback on my responses.”

  2. Test Prep: Stressed about an upcoming exam? Feed ChatGPT your syllabus or key topics, and it can quiz you, explain concepts, or create practice problems tailored to your needs.
📌 Prompt Idea: “Quiz me on [TOPIC] with multiple-choice questions, and explain the answers if I get them wrong.”

  3. Presentation Rehearsals: Need to wow an audience? Have ChatGPT act as a critical audience member who provides feedback on your script, tone, or delivery. It can even suggest ways to make your presentation more engaging.
📌 Prompt Idea: “You are a public speaking coach. Review my presentation script and suggest improvements for clarity, engagement, and tone.”

Why You’ll Love This Tip

This approach isn’t just about preparation—it’s about confidence. ChatGPT Live creates a safe space to practice tough scenarios without judgment. It can identify gaps in your knowledge, suggest areas for improvement, and make you feel more familiar with the kinds of challenges you might face in real life. Think of it as a rehearsal stage where you can refine your skills before stepping into the spotlight.

Pro Tip: Customize the Experience

  • Add Context: Share details about the job, test, or audience to make the practice more realistic.

  • Ask for Feedback: Use follow-up prompts to refine your answers or strategies. Example: “How could I improve my response to this question?”

  • Iterate & Improve: Practice a few rounds, tweak your approach, and watch yourself improve with each session.

Example in Action

Let’s say you have an upcoming interview for a marketing position. You could prompt ChatGPT with:
"You are a recruiter for a marketing role at [COMPANY]. Ask me 10 behavioral and technical interview questions related to the job."

ChatGPT might respond with:

  1. "Can you tell me about a time you successfully launched a marketing campaign? What strategies did you use?"

  2. "How do you measure the success of your marketing efforts?"

  3. "What would you do if you noticed a significant drop in website traffic?"

You can practice answering these questions, and ChatGPT can give constructive feedback or suggest improvements. After a few rounds, you'll feel ready to tackle the real thing with confidence.

Final Thought

Preparation is the key to confidence, and with ChatGPT Live, you’ve got a tireless coach in your corner. Whether it’s practicing for an interview, acing your test prep, or perfecting a presentation, ChatGPT transforms daunting tasks into manageable, even enjoyable, challenges.
